I personally find enough variety in the game, with a lot of different builds for each character, both currently available characters being very different in both the enemies they face (Rook will mostly face the Rise, Boggers and Spark Barons factions while Sal will mostly face the Spree and Admiralty factions, which act differently in both combat and negotiation) and the way they're played (Sal is more standard in negotiation and combat, while Rook could be compared to the Defect in StS, with additional features that change the way you negotiate, with a gambling and rigging the gamble aspect, and fight, with charges to your guns and cards that will spend those charges, add charges, have different effects if you're empty or fully-loaded on charges, and an overcharge system). There is however a Prestige system, similar to Ascension in StS, which makes the game way harder eventually (better arguments and attacks for your enemies, stronger bosses, regaining less health when you sleep, more expensive merchants, etc.) if you find it too easy. Most people seem to find it easier than StS, however, that's probably because they're StS pros and thus are really used to deck-building games, meaning only the other aspects of the game (the fact there are two decks, grafts, item cards, your pet, the relationships with other characters, etc.) are new to them.
